When my tour groups come to Yosemite I like to invite those who wish, to ride the shuttle with me over to the historic “Ahwahnee Lodge.” This beautiful building opened in 1927. The Native Americans referred to this valley as “land of the gaping mouth” - which is what Ahwahnee means.
